Imagine a Calming ER Experience
The Biophilic ER
Biophilic design is centered around the principle of humans' innate yearn for connections to nature. Introducing larger amounts of greenery and natural light into the ER can create a more soothing environment for all.

The Hibachi Experience
In an effort to increase transparency, we were inspired by the hibachi restaurant model. These restaurants attract customers with the opportunity to have their meal cooked in front of them. In our ER design we aim to create similar levels of customer/patient efficacy. We want to open communication between patients and hospital employees. Beginning in the waiting room, patients can be provided with service ETAs, and, once in the ER, patients receive clear information about when their nurse/doctor will return to meet with them.
The Alcove
When redesigning the hallway bed, we wanted to make it clear to patients that while they were in overflow, they were by no means an after thought. The goal is to design overflow space in a considerate and intentional manner, improving the overflow experience. Hallway alcoves can serve this purpose. These alcoves can be spread throughout the hospital and can hold a various amount of hospital beds. Possible alcove features include:
Lighting fixtures that can be dimmed
Charger Outlets
Nightstands
